前言

为使理论物理方向的研究生更早地接触到前沿研究课题,更好地得到专业的训练,更多地与一线科研人员交流,欧洲和美国都会定期举办针对研究生的理论物理短期课程,比如欧洲的Les Houches School of Physics,美国的TASI Lectures。这些短期学校夯实了研究生的基础知识,开拓了他们的学术眼界,对于他们在未来的学术研究中,起到了非常积极地作用。

我们打算在国内组织一个类似的暑期学校。本次暑期学校的授课主题是弦论,场论,全息理论方向中前沿研究课题,邀请的授课人都是有一定影响力的华人青年学者,授课对象是完成理论物理基本课程(包括广义相对论及量子场论)训练的高年级本科生或者研究生。本次课程持续一周时间,共讲授六个主题,每个主题四次课,采取线上授课。另外,为了绕过语言的障碍,让学生们更好地吸收课程的知识,授课语言将以中文为主。

主题:Scattering Amplitudes: QFT, Strings and Mathematics

摘要:Scattering amplitudes play a prominent role not only in high energy particle physics, but also for understanding deep structures in Quantum Field Theory (QFT), string theory and mathematics. I will briefly introduce the basics of scattering amplitudes in gauge theories and gravity, the so-called Cachazo-He-Yuan formulas inspired by string theory, and new geometric formulations which have led to connections with positive geometries and cluster algebra.

摘要:量子场论的T\bar{T}形变是近几年来国际理论物理的热点之一。根据重整化群理论,T\bar{T}形变属于场论的无关形变(irrelevant deformation)。这一类形变通常非常复杂,极难进行解析研究。T\bar{T}形变是一个例外,它是一种严格可解的形变。因此,我们可以解析地研究许多重要的物理量,如能谱、配分函数、纠缠熵等。更重要的是,近年来对于T\bar{T}形变的研究揭示了它和理论物理的其它诸多分支,包括全息对偶、可积系统、二维引力等有着深刻而有趣的联系。T\bar{T}形变的研究,对于更深入理解量子场论的一些基本概念如局域性和紫外完备性也具有重要的意义。在本课程中,我将深入浅出地介绍二维场论的T\bar{T}形变,以及与此相关的其它可解形变。课程前半部分侧重于于基本定义和重要物理量的相关计算。后半部分则侧重于介绍T\bar{T}形变与理论物理其它分支的联系,以及未来的可能研究方向。

主题:From entanglement to energy conditions in QFTs

摘要: 能量条件(Energy conditions)是能动张量(Energy-momentum tensor)密度的约束条件。在经典的广义相对论中,能量条件扮演着重要的作用:通过一系列定理(例如奇点定理,以及黑洞视界面积定理等),能量条件深刻地影响了时空的性质与结构。有趣的是,多数基于时空点集(pointwise)的能量条件都可以在经典或量子场论中找到与之相违的反例。因此,一系列的非点集的能量条件(例如平均零能量条件,量子零能量条件等)被提出并猜想在量子场论中一般性地成立。可是,除了在某些特例中,用传统的场论方法很难证明这些能量条件。近期的研究表明,这些能量条件的本质与场论中的一些普遍的内在结构性质(例如量子纠缠,信息论,因果结构等)有着深刻的联系。正是基于这些联系,学界构造了能量条件的一般性的证明。在这个讲座中,我们将回顾梳理这一系列的发展,包括:1. 奇点定理,视界面积定理与能量条件;2. 点集能量条件在经典或量子场论中的违反;3. 平均零能量条件与量子零能量条件:猜想的提出与物理动机;4. 基于传统场论方法的特例性证明;5. 基于全息引力的特例性证明;6. 基于量子纠缠结构的一般性证明。

Energy conditions are a set of constraints on the energy-momentum tensors. They play important roles in the classical theory of general relativity: through a series of theorems (such as singularity theorem, horizon area theorem, etc), energy conditions dictates the structures and properties of spacetimes. Interestingly, most energy conditions that are spacetime point-wise are violated in classical or quantum field theories (QFTs) by easily constructible counter-examples. As a result, a few non-local or quasi-local energy conditions (such as the averaged null energy condition ANEC, and the quantum null energy condition QNEC) are proposed and conjectured to hold true generically in quantum field theories. However, apart from a few special cases, proofs of these energy conditions using conventional QFT techniques are very difficult. Recent progresses suggest that, the nature of these energy conditions enjoy a deep connection with intrinsic structures and properties (such as entanglement, information theory, and causality) of QFTs, which the generic proofs are based upon. In these lectures, we shall review the series of developments that lead to these progresses. Topics include: 1. singularity theorem, horizon area theorem, and energy conditions; 2. Violations of point-wise energy conditions in classical and quantum field theories; 3. averaged null energy condition (ANEC) and quantum null energy condition (QNEC): proposal and motivation; 4. special-case proofs using conventional field theory techniques; 5. special-case proofs using AdS/CFT; 6. generic proofs using quantum entanglement structures.
