Abstract
Time-dependent systems often appear in nonequilibrium physics, but in general they are difficult to analyze. Integrable models with time dependent couplings may be useful for studying such systems exactly, but only a few examples are known.
In this talk, I will consider classical integrability in field theories with spacetime-dependent couplings. I will generalize the usual Lax equation in such a way that the theory remains solvable, and show that this modified equation naturally appears from a modified version of the four-dimensional Chern–Simons theory. Using this framework, we can systematically construct spacetime-dependent versions of many known two-dimensional integrable field theories. I will explain this construction through several examples. This talk is based on hep-th/2607.02648.

Junichi Sakamoto completed his Ph.D. in 2019 at Kyoto University, under the supervision of Prof. Kentaroh Yoshida. He was a postdoctoral researcher at National Taiwan University, INFN in Turin, and Toyota Technological Institute, before joining the University of Osaka in 2026. His research interests focus on string/M-theory, integrability and holography, including four-dimensional Chern–Simons theory.
