Abstract

The spectrum of the free D1D5 CFT has a $1/N$ gap above the Ramond ground states, arising from the maximally twisted sector. A natural question is whether this gap is an artifact of the free theory or remains robust in the black hole regime. In this talk, I will present the spectrum of near-gap states away from the free point. In the large $N$ limit, the near-gap spectrum can be determined up to order $1/N^2$ using an integrable structure. We find that the gap and the near-gap spectrum remain robust away from the free point. I will also discuss possible implications for the mass gap of near-BPS black holes.
